Search Olmsted County Inmate Records

Olmsted County inmate records are centered on the county jail roster for people who are currently in custody. An Olmsted County jail roster search helps locate a person after booking, check whether the custody list has been updated, and separate jail custody from court case records or state prison records. The roster is useful for a first look, but it is not the only access path. Custody can also be checked by phone, through a public data request, or through state and federal locator systems when the person has moved outside the county jail system.

Olmsted County Jail Roster

The official current custody source is the Olmsted County ADC In Custody List. The county also publishes a Who is in Custody? page that sends users to the list or to the Adult Detention Center phone line. The roster is free and does not require a login. It is maintained for the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center, the sheriff-operated jail in Rochester that holds pre-sentenced adults, sentenced adults, work release detainees, boarders, and people held for other county, state, or federal agencies when space is available.

The roster is a daily list, not a minute-by-minute certificate of legal custody. During the June 18, 2026 research check, the list carried an update timestamp through June 17, 2026 at 10:59:51 PM. That timestamp matters because an arrest, release, transfer, or bond posting can occur after the roster cycle. The roster itself warns that information should not be relied on for legal action and that the Sheriff's Office cannot represent that the data is current, accurate, or complete. For a court deadline, release decision, or same-day arrest, call the ADC at 507-328-6790.

The Olmsted County jail roster is not the same thing as a statewide prison search, a court-record search, or a federal detainee search. People sentenced to Minnesota prison are searched through the Minnesota Department of Corrections public locator. Federal prisoners are searched through the BOP inmate locator, and immigration detention is searched through the ICE Online Detainee Locator System. A federal pretrial detainee may still appear locally if held at the ADC on a U.S. Marshals hold.

Use Olmsted County Records

To answer "how do I find someone in the Olmsted County jail," start with the county custody list and then use the fallback channel that fits the result. The roster accepts name text and last-name initial browsing. It displays entries inline rather than requiring a separate profile click. If the person is not listed, the next step depends on timing: a very new arrest may not yet be reflected, a release may have occurred after the last daily update, or the person may be in state, federal, or immigration custody.

  1. Open the county Who is in Custody page or go directly to the ADC In Custody List.
  2. Check the update timestamp before relying on the roster result.
  3. Type the person's first or last name, or select the first letter of the last name.
  4. Review each matching inline entry for the photo date, booking date, incarceration reason, detainee description, and charges.
  5. Call 507-328-6790 if the person does not appear or if current release status is important.
  6. Use a county data request if the record is no longer on the current roster or if a copy of public jail data is needed.

The county has no confirmed sheriff or police custody app for Olmsted County. The City of Rochester has a 311 app for city service reports, but the research did not confirm it as a jail roster, warrant, or police custody app. Use the web roster, the phone line, the records-request route, MCRO, BCA public criminal history, MNDOC, BOP, ICE, or Minnesota Haven/VINELink depending on the type of custody or notification needed.

Olmsted County Roster Fields

The ADC list is simpler than many commercial search tools. It does not ask for a date of birth, booking number, case number, or facility dropdown in the captured text. The public search relies on name text and alphabet browsing, which makes spelling and name order important. Try a last name first, then a shorter first-name fragment if the spelling may vary.

The county custody page is shown in the official screenshot source below. It is useful when a direct roster bookmark fails or a user wants the county's phone fallback.

Olmsted County Inmate Record Details

Olmsted County inmate records on the public roster are photo-and-charge oriented. A record shows enough to identify a current detainee and understand the booking reason, but it is not a full booking packet. The captured roster text did not show bond amount, housing unit, court date, date of birth, address, warrant number, physical descriptors, or arresting agency. Court and bail channels must be used for those details when public access is available.

FieldWhat It Shows
Mugshot / photoPublic image appears inline for each listed detainee.
Photo dateTimestamp for the public booking photo.
NameLast name, first name format.
Booking DateDate and time of booking into ADC custody.
Incarceration ReasonExamples include New Charges, Warrant Arrest, Writ, Pre-Trial, Sentenced, and Probation Violation.
Detainee DescriptionExamples include Awaiting Arraignment, Awaiting Bail or Bond, Release Revoked, Other Agency Hold, and US Marshall's Hold.
Charges and LevelNumbered charge descriptions with levels such as Felony, Gross Misdemeanor, Misdemeanor, or Petty Misdemeanor.

Those status words also explain the jail process. "Awaiting Arraignment" means a first court step has not yet occurred. "Awaiting Bail or Bond" means release may depend on financial conditions and any holds. "Writ" means a court order is tied to custody or production. "US Marshall's Hold" means the local jail may be housing the person for a federal process.

Request Olmsted County Jail Records

When an Olmsted County jail record is not online, use the county's Data Practice Request process or the online public data request form. A public request should say it is made under Minnesota Statutes Chapter 13, describe the data sought, and state whether inspection, copies, or both are requested. The county says a public requester does not have to identify themselves or explain why they want public data, although contact information can be needed if copies are requested.

Inspection of public data is free. Copies may carry fees. If the requested jail data is private data about the requester, a minor child, or a person under guardianship, the county requires proof of identity. Requests not made in person may require notarized or certified proof. Redactions are normal when a jail record contains private, confidential, juvenile, medical, security-sensitive, or active-investigation data.

Note: A records request can help with released or archived booking data, but it is not a substitute for calling the ADC about current custody.

Olmsted County Booking Process

A person arrested by the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office, Rochester Police, or another agency may be transported to the Adult Detention Center at 101 4th Street SE. During intake, staff identify the person, create the booking record, take or associate a booking photo, log the booking time, record the incarceration reason, store property, conduct screening, and determine initial custody status. The public roster reflects those steps through the photo date, booking date, incarceration reason, detainee description, charges, and levels.

The booking charges on the roster are not always the final court charges. The Olmsted County Attorney's Criminal Division reviews investigation reports, files complaints, presents grand jury matters when needed, appears in court, and makes sentencing recommendations. Rochester City Attorney handles petty misdemeanor, misdemeanor, and some gross misdemeanor matters in Rochester. The County Attorney handles felonies anywhere in Olmsted County and certain lesser cases outside Rochester and in contract cities.

Olmsted County Custody Channels

One common error is treating every inmate lookup as a county jail lookup. The Olmsted County roster covers current ADC custody. The Minnesota DOC locator covers adults committed to the Commissioner of Corrections and still under DOC jurisdiction, including people in prison and some people under supervision. New state-prison commitments may take several business days to appear in MNDOC, so a person can leave the ADC roster before showing in the state locator.

Minnesota Haven and VINELink are available for custody-status notification, especially for victims and DOC-sentenced people. Notification services are different from a roster search. They should not be treated as proof that a person is, or is not, in the ADC at a given minute.

Olmsted County Jail Facilities

The Sheriff's Office operates two local detention locations that matter for inmate records. The Adult Detention Center is the main jail and public custody-list source. The Work Release Facility is part of ADC operations but has its own address, phone line, and minimum-security work-release role. On-site video visitation also uses the WRF arrival point.

Exact cash, money order, or an approved bail bondsman bond is accepted there. Personal checks are not accepted, after-hours credit cards are not accepted, and ADC staff cannot make change.

Note: Confirm custody status, holds, and release conditions with the ADC before sending money, scheduling a visit, or posting bail.
